Welcome to Running Westwardho

Ultra, endurance runner and cancer survivor Andy Hood welcomes you to Running WestwardHo. Here, you'll find insights into upcoming ultras, race reports, fundraising efforts for cancer charities, and valuable training advice.

A cancer survivor, I am committed to sharing my journey to inspire and empower others battling the disease. Each year, I design bold ultras that make waves, spark conversations, and raise awareness—particularly around testicular cancer—while offering support to those in the fight.

About Andy Hood.

In 2021, testicular cancer knocked me off my feet, stripping me of my love for running. What followed was a painful period of surgery and chemotherapy—a time to heal, reflect, and face the uncertain road ahead.

But I chose to rebuild. I came back stronger—Andy v2.0. Cancer gave me a chance to reimagine my running journey, to merge it with a mission: raising awareness and supporting those battling cancer alongside me.

It was Jeremy Clarkson and his co-hosts on *The Grand Tour* who inspired me to check for cancer at 48. Without their message, I would never have known. The cancer would have spread, and this website might not even exist. Now, I carry the torch, urging men to check, to speak up, and to break the silence around a cancer we don't talk about enough.

On this new path, I’m dedicated to supporting all those facing cancer. To date, I’ve raised around £15,286 for cancer and mental health charities. Everything I do is driven by three principles: Support. Advocate. Create.

Three Guiding Principles

Support

Whether I’m packing boxes filled with love and hope for cancer patients through ChemoHero, or answering heartfelt questions from those who visit my website or Instagram, my purpose is clear: to stand beside anyone walking through cancer. I’ve been there—and I’ll be here for you.

Advocate

I didn't check for testicular cancer until I was prompted at age 48, I now carry that message forward to encourage others to be self-aware.  It's a conversation I am open about and encourage others to be too.

Create

I create content that promotes an environment of self-awareness.  Checking in on our physical and mental wellbeing.  My own designed range of men's underwear, Check Ya Balls creates conversation and saves lives.

I embody the spirit of perseverance and dedication. Join me in making difference to those navigating cancer and the conversation around testicular cancer.
